Overview

Psychological manipulation is at the core of many online scams, from romance fraud to investment scams and impersonation attacks. This project aims to build behavioral AI models that identify manipulation techniques embedded in conversations before victims suffer financial or emotional harm.

Research Approach

We will analyze thousands of real scam conversations to identify behavioral patterns, cognitive biases, and persuasion strategies used by scammers. These insights will be used to develop specialized AI models capable of detecting psychological manipulation across multiple languages and cultural contexts.

Expected Inpact

This project aims to translate behavioral AI research into practical tools that help people recognize online scams before significant harm occurs. One planned application is an online service where users can export or download conversation histories from platforms such as WhatsApp and upload the resulting text files for an AI-based assessment of psychological manipulation and scam risk.

The research also aims to support financial institutions, technology platforms, and public agencies in strengthening fraud prevention and protecting vulnerable users.
